Tornado Recovery

Rate this Entry
Our community and many, many others in Alabama are recovering from the devastating tornado of April 27. The main thoroughfare from our community was finally opened Monday (5/9). The area is like a war zone. Some businesses are gone, not just damaged - GONE! God has blessed us with two weeks of good weather which was of tremendous help in starting the clean up process. We are getting some rain today (5/13). Some severe weather is expected (straight line winds & possibly hail) however no tornados. I'm sure this is very upsetting for everyone who lost family or had injuries, especially young children. We will recover, however it will take many years and the loss of life is forever. Continue to pray for our state and those who are suffering.

Saturday my son and I went to donate blood to the blood bank then went to see parts of Pleasant Grove, AL which were so devastated by the recent tornados. Words and pictures cannot describe the aftermath of such powerful tornados. There is block after block after block of nothing but rubble. Trees down, houses gone or just a foundation and maybe part of one wall standing, churches in piles of twisted metal, wood, and concrete.
We lived in that community for 20 years and it was hard to identify streets and homes of people we knew. Some friends who still lived there were injured but, thank God, none lost their lives. It will be YEARS before the community will recover. Please continue to remember our state in your prayers.

This has certainly been a difficult few months for many people, and now with the flooding along the Mississippi river, I can only hope that people heed the warnings and act with caution. Things can always be replaced, but lives cannot. Keeping all of you in our prayers.
