Question Favorite read of the year?

As the year starts coming to an end, what are some of the favorite things you have read this year? Have you picked up a new favorite author, book, magazine, news article, or comic strip? Why do you enjoy this particular item, and what should we know about it?

I have read several books this year, however not as many as I usually read. The most recent was Christmas Jars, by Jason F. Wright. It is a really sweet Christmas story.

I received many editions of UNCLE JOHN'S BATHROOM READER, which is mostly trivia and interesting facts. Each has about 300-400 pages. I've read almost all of them, but not in the bathroom.
My paycheck is, also, a delight to read as I remember how many kids I dealt with and the hours I worked to get what I deposit in the bank.

Dean Koont'z the Darkest Evening of the year, and the Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Series. I read DAILY. Start new books probably every 3 days or so.

Hope everyone has a Very Merry Christmas .

    Default Rick Bragg books

A few days ago I got three of the books written by Rick Bragg, a Pulitzer prize winner from Alabama. Hard as I tried I could not get into the books. I started the third one, "Prince of Frogtown" today and finally gave up! To me they seemed like an endless retelling of his family and their difficulties from about 1925 to recent years. I read almost all of "All Over but the Shoutin" and "Ava's Man". Have any of you read them?
If so, what did you think?

I've read none of his books and used to religiously read Patricia Cornwell's forensic science books. I don't have much time to read books now because when I get a good one, I don't want to be bothered with any type of domestic responsibility until I finish it. So, TWO MINUTE MYSTERIES are about my speed at this time.

My SIL gave me several paperback books and each contains four mini-novels. They are Christian romance and are quite good. So far I have read Alabama by Kay Cornelius, South Carolina by Yvonne Lehman and Texas Charm by DiAnne Mills. One that I read in the past few months that I really enjoyed was "Body Double" by Tess Gerritsen (Medical mysteries). Have you read any Tess Gerritsen books?

Question The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

Has anyone read The Story of Edgar Sawtelle? It has been on the best seller list for 37+ weeks. I finally decided to read it. Had to get on waiting list at the library. Finally got it about three weeks ago. I did read it but never really got into it. It is an interesting story and very long. I think the book could have been shortened by at least one-third and the story would have been the same. I was somewhat disappointed that it took so long to read but determined that I would finish it since it has been on the best seller list for so long.
