Chocolate Covered Spoons
A couple years ago, we posted a recipe for Peppermint Candy Spoons, and I thought that some decorating ideas for chocolate covered ones would be good for St. Valentine's Day this year. These make great hostess gifts and party favors! Simply unwrap and use to stir your favorite coffee for a chocolate treat (or use to stir hot chocolate for an even extra chocolate boost!).
Materials
- Chocolate (milk, dark, white - whatever you like; you can even use several, one for the spoons, and one for decoration!)
- Some flavoring oil, if desired (vanilla, mint, raspberry, orange, Kahlua, etc. - make sure that the flavoring is OK for chocolate making, some will cause it to seize up and become grainy)
- Anything which you'd like to use for decorating, such as sprinkles, candy hearts, cinnamon hearts, or crushed Oreo cookies
- 1 pkg of plastic spoons (red or white ones would be pretty)
- Wax paper and a cookie sheet
- Cellophane and a ribbon, or plastic wrap
Directions
- Line the cookie sheet with wax paper
- Slowly melt the chocolate in the microwave or over a double boiler until smooth (be careful not to overcook it)
- Stir in the flavoring oil, if desired
- Dip the spoons in the chocolate, and place on the waxed paper
- If desired, top with candy pieces, sprinkles, or crushed cookies
- Allow the spoons to cool in the refrigerator
- If desired, drizzle the now cool spoons with a second chocolate (if the spoons are milk chocolate, then perhaps use white chocolate for this) and allow to cool again
- Once completely cool, wrap the spoons in either cellophane or plastic wrap, tie with a ribbon, and store in a cool place - refrigeration is not necessary
