I was browsing Amazon looking for a kitchen scale, when I came across this:



I haven't tried it, or even seen one in person, but according to the description, you can place it in your garden, and it will check the spot's temperature, heat, and soil, and then you can plug it into your computer, and it will tell you what type of plants will grow best in that location. You can even place it next to sick plants, it will monitor the surroundings, and then you can type in the type of plant you have and it will list why it thinks your plant might be sick (too much/little sunlight, etc.). Pretty neat!
