Fido Jars
I have been using Fido Jars purchased at a local Crate & Barrel Outlet store for about a year now, and highly recommend them.
Pros:
- Dishwasher Safe
- Tight Fitting Lids - I originally purchased these jars to keep insects out of my bulk rice from Costco; but while I have been storing them in my pantry (located in my laundry room) for over a year now, I have also had no problems with moisture getting into the food. The lids actually clamp down, and the rubber gaskets work wonderfully.
- Made out of Glass - I love that these jars are made out of glass. I don't have to worry about paints which could contain lead, or the various toxins found in plastic getting into my food. Since the lids are also made out of glass, I don't have to worry about them rusting like the metal ones can.
- Inexpensive - A very large 5 liter jar sells for under $10, and the medium sized 2 liter jars sell for less than $6 a piece.
Con:
- Like most standard size Fido jars, the opening is a bit small, barely accommodating a 1/2 cup measuring cup. This can be a little cumbersome when measuring out large amounts of flour. Still, it hasn't been enough to deter me away from using the jars.
So far, I'm using two 5 liter jars - one for my brown rice, and one for my flour, and two 2 liter jars - one for my baking soda, and one for assorted tea bags. Next weekend, I'm looking to purchase a few more of the jars, as I'm looking for something new to keep my sugar in, and may replace a couple of other old canisters, as well.
