To help encourage your cat to use an emery board or post, try scenting it with catnip (this only works if your cat likes catnip - some do more than others, and some don't at all). The catnip can be sprinkled on, or you can use one of the all natural catnip sprays which are available both on-line, as well as at some pet shops.
