After I discovered that small desk perches run for $25+ retail, I decided to make my own. The method which I came up with is very inexpensive, as well as quick and easy (takes less than 5 minutes).

What you will need:

  • A wooden bird perch, thick dowel rod, non-toxic stick, or anything similar which your bird can stand on.
  • A fastener of your choice. I used some floral wire which I happened to have laying around (from the duct tape roses I made earlier this year), but string, long twist ties, zip ties, and anything similar will also work well.
  • Two large disposable cups. I used plastic red ones, but cardboard might also work well.

Method:

  1. Gather your supplies.
  2. Punch two holes in the bottom of each cup, about an inch or so apart.
  3. Using the fastener of your choice, attach the perch to the bottom of the cups. Make sure that the perch overhangs a couple of inches on each side, so that it won't slip off. Also, make sure that the ends of the fastener (wire, string knot, etc.) end up on the inside of the cups, so as to not poke your feathered friend.

That's all there is to it! Here's mine:
