Question What do you keep on hand for emergencies?

The number of natural disasters on the news recently has gotten me re-thinking our emergency preparedness here. What do you keep on hand for emergencies? Is there anything special, which while not a necessity, helps to keep you sane when the power goes out due to a storm?

We have a battery operated radio, a small butane camping stove & an oil lamp. We always have some canned food on hand and we have an ice chest that will hold for two/three days. We have a kerosene heater that we can (and have) used during the winter. We also recently bought a small battery operated lantern. We are considering a storm shelter.

Bourbon, rum and coke. All kills germs, relaxes, and COKE dissolves rust, enamel from your teeth and gives you energy.

I've also heard of using cheap vodka as a general cleaner like vinegar. Some say it smells better, comes in multiple scents, also disinfects, cleans glass well, and if you get desperate, you can drink it!

And if you mix it with orange juice, you've taken in one of 5 fruits for the day.
