It's Getting Warm Outside
The heat wave has reached the east coast... this is the forecast for today (113F!!!):
They have an alert saying the heat index could get to be 115-120 today.
Wait, we get this, and blizzards in the winter?

lol Trudy!
The final heat index for DC today was 121! I stuck my arm outside the door and said "Nope, we don't need anything at the store that bad!"

This weather should be a reminder to be good. If h*** is any hotter than this, it is REALLY hot! Stay cool

It's 6 AM, and I've been up for about an hour preparing to go to the store this morning (printing recipes, a couple coupons, getting dressed). I have four things I want to make today, and I need to get started before the roof starts melting! On today's agenda - zucchini pickles, regular pickles, zucchini brownies, and blackberry muffins. I'll let you know how it goes!

Girl!!!! You could do this in the early morning....say 4:00, and keep the kitchen cool. It is advisable to do cooking at that time so the air cons won't be overloaded. The major stores which close at night put their air cons at a higher temp to save money. When I cook in the hot of summer, I try to do it very early in the morning for that reason. It's a thought, huh?

Getting out and doing the shopping in the morning was nice, the roads were almost empty, the stores too, everything was well stocked, and I had my pick of the produce!
It's now 11 and the pickles (both batches) are canned, the muffins are baked, the brownies are cooling, and several loads of laundry have been washed and dried (didn't want the hot dryer running, either!). Whrew! I think I'll sit down now.
Tomorrow, we're going out extra early to pick more blackberries, if there are any left after the heat and possible thunderstorms. Crossing my fingers, because I used one of the two jars I canned last week in the muffins, and they worked beautifully! Recipe to follow in another post.

All the blackberries that grow wild in the area behind our home dried up before they could get ripe. We had about a month of drought. It has rained almost every day for the past week! Summer in Alabama!
