I wanted to share this with all of you. I wrote it years ago after the attack on our wonderful nation. On this day, the second which will live in infamy, I pray for those who were selfless working through the wreckage and ruin putting themselves in harm's way, for those who went home living through the disaster, but most of all for those who never went home.

    SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
This day holds a lot of memories and feelings for many of us; it won't soon be forgotten. I honor those who lost their lives on that day and those who are far from home protecting our freedom because of it. Regardless if you think the war is wrong or right, we have a whole bunch of people who are protecting us and protecting our country. They are ready to give up their lives to protect what we hold so dear...our freedom.Their courage helps us sleep better at night. I'm not getting religious with my next statement, just stating the facts: two people have died for your freedom and peace of mind; one is a soldier and one hung on a cross. Those who came to the rescue of others, in that horrible time on 9/11/01, gave no thought to themselves. Some went home to the arms of their loved ones and some went Home to the arms of the One who loves them. I know where I was---in the living room with neither television nor radio on. I'm sure you remember where you were, too. I called my stock broker---a tough fella who always seemed to have everything in order. His voice was different and I asked why he sounded the way he did. He choked trying to talk. I could tell he was on the verge of tears. He sputter out, "The Twin Towers have been hit by airplanes. They're falling. We've been attacked!!!" I couldn't believe my ears, not many could, nor could many of us believe our eyes as we watched the horror. When I turned on my television, I sat in disbelief of it all, it was so surreal, and the one thought that kept returning was, "This is the second day which will live in infamy."
The day seemed longer than usual...horror does that to you; then the whole week seemed like an eternity. My prayers were longer than usual and sometimes all I could think of to say was "Help them, help us all, and bless those who were so unselfish. And God, bless the USA." Our country came together once again, to join forces to protect us all and this great country we live in. It's been 10 years and few forget September 11, 2001. It's been almost 70 years, but many forget or don't know about December 7, 1941. These days will live in infamy....I pray we won't have another.
    God, bless the USA.

    Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day;
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA.
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against the blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger
    In fear for your neighbor,
Or did you just sit down and cry?

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones,
And pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?

Did you burst out in pride
    For the red white and blue;
The heroes who died just doing what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters?

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man.
I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran.
But, I know Jesus and I talk to God,
And I remember this from when I was young?
Faith hope and love are some good things He gave us,
    And the greatest is love.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
    Driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor,
In a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her?
Did you dust off that bible at home?
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened?
Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages,
Speak with some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow,
Go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger,
Stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran.
But, I know Jesus and I talk to God,
And I remember this from when I was young?
Faith hope and love are some good things He gave us
    And the greatest is love.

    The greatest is love
    The greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?
