Here's another issue of foods and other items which you shouldn't feed to your pets. This time, we're looking to protect our feline friends. Many of these items are also found on the canine list, but there are some differences as well. Human products which you should never feed your cat include the following items:
  • Alcohol
  • Apples, Apricots, Cherries, Peaches and Plums - the seeds, pits, and stems are all toxic (to both people and animals!)
  • Aspirin and Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
  • Caffeine (coffee, tea, etc.)
  • Canned Tuna (in large amounts - it doesn't have the necessary nutrition for cats)
  • Chocolate
  • Citrus Oil
  • Dog Food (if the cat gets into the dog food every once and a while that's ok, but dog food doesn't have the necessary nutrition for cats and in large amounts will cause malnutrition)
  • Eggs (raw)
  • Fat Trimmings
  • Fish (raw)
  • Garlic
  • Grapes and Raisins
  • Iron Supplements
  • Leeks
  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Milk (surprisingly, many cats are lactose intolerant)
  • Mushrooms
  • Onions
  • Potatoes
  • Propylene Glycol (used in some soft and moist foods)
  • Rhubarb
  • Salt
  • Shallots
  • Sodium Nitrate (used in many hot dogs)
  • Sweets
  • Tomato and Potato Leaves and Stems
  • Yeast

Note: Exclusion from this list doesn't mean that an item is safe! Always check with your veterinarian if you're unsure.
