    Lightbulb Thoughts

This topic is for sharing your thoughts; which can be serious, thought provoking, or funny. What are you thinking about?

I went turkey hunting today and shot one. It scared the poop out of the guy working at the next floor freezer, though.

Heraclites said, “It is in changing that things find purpose.”
When I first heard this it gave me a lot to think about. Now that the fall equinox is upon us, the colors are becoming more vibrant instead of the monotonous green of summer. Fall is my favorite season because of the colors. I forget about why the trees’ leaves are turning---they are dying. All I see are the beautiful colors. The change is good. Then comes the change of the seasons---Fall cascading into Winter; Winter melting into Spring; Spring blowing into Summer; and Summer drifting into Fall. Each change brings a new something to appreciate or wait as patiently as possible to find the purpose of the change. I’m sure there are changes which have occurred in your life that you really wondered, “What is the purpose of this?!” only to find out you became stronger, wiser, more at peace, or less inhibited. I have questioned a lot of the changes in my life because I was pushed out of my comfort zone. But then, as time went on, and I had to continue to find the purpose, it surfaced when I least expected it in a true revelation that change, most of the time, is good. As a Christian, I believe the Bible verse Romans 8:28 rings loud and true.

Many years ago I had planned my career. I wanted to become a manager, transfer to a city near my hometown and prepare for retirement. Our son was 16 years old and attended military school. The promotion and transfer came and our son was extremely upset about us moving 100 miles from where we were living. We went ahead with the move and what a disaster it became! After about two months I requested to return to my original location and go back to a non-management position. I was so very fortunate that I was able to do this! Even though there was a tremendous pay cut, this was a blessing it was in disguise. I was much happier in my work, it was much less demanding than management, I was working much shorter hours, our son was happy. As things progressed a situation occured at work and my salary was restored and I was paid the additional money for overtime I had worked in my non-management position. As a manager I worked long hours for set compensation (no overtime). In the non-management position it seemed that I was only working part time! What a relief. This was a good example of thinking I had it all worked out when actually my plan was not the right one for me. Sometimes what seems like a disaster is truly a blessing.

Sometimes, it isn't until we loose what we have and get what we think we want, that we really realize just how blessed we are! It's wonderful that you were able to move back and start over in a better position. In DH and I's field (computer science), it's pretty rare to get paid for overtime, so I know how you feel! Money isn't everything though, and it's important to do what you love (or at least prefer) - life's too short to be miserable!

I spent five hours today taking my very best friend to have some medical test done. All turned out good! She is such a treasure to me and has done the same thing for me in the past. We understand each other and have so much in common. She is as close to me as a sister. She doesn't have a sister, so I am hoping I fill that need for her.

What a blessing you are to her, mspete, and she in return is to you. Friends are the siblings we didn't have.

I am happy to hear that her medical test turned out well! Friendships and being able to take care of one's health are blessings indeed!
